Italian Horserace Betting Tender Now Set For October

28/08/2008: The Italian Government has confirmed that a new tender process to award over 500 horserace betting licences will be conducted during October. The tender has been put into motion by a European Court of Justice ruling that Italy illegally re-awarded 329 licences to domestic operators back in 2000.

Harvard Study Shows Flaws In Online Gambling Spending Limits

20/08/2008: A study conducted by the Harvard Medical School found that mandatory and self-imposed deposit limits for online sports betting site Bwin.com were effective in identifying likely problem gamblers, but were unlikely to act as incentives to halt problem betting behaviour.

Private Lottery Companies Gamble On German Treaty Challenge Success

13/08/2008: A German Federal Court ruling due later this week could provide some indication as to whether the ban on online lottery sales under Germany’s Interstate Gambling Treaty will come into effect as scheduled next year. Private lottery distributors, already suffering under the Treaty, are banking on obtaining legal protection from the Treaty’s full scope.

Czech Gambling Consultation Nears Completion

06/08/2008: Government-appointed consultancy firm Ernst & Young will submit a series of recommendations for an overhaul of gambling regulation in the Czech Republic to the country’s Ministry of Finance at the end of August, having conducted a series of meetings with key industry stakeholders last month. The period for public comments closes on August 18.
