CEC to leave Italy alone

There is an indication that the CEC is going to leave Italy alone, in terms of infringement proceedings, to see how the ‘partial liberalisation’ works. The Commission has already postponed giving its reasoned opinion and the next likely date for this will be March 2007.

The first amendment states that, in order to be able to offer their services in Italy, it will be enough for operators to comply to the following: being quoted in the main EU and extra-EU stock exchanges, have a turnover exceeding 500 million Euro per year, have a license in a European Country, carry out activities against addiction to gambling, have a stable organization in Italy. The other amendment states that operators offering their services in Italy will have to pay at least 20% of their gross profits in tax and that the amount of money won by the punter should never be under 90% of the amount bet.
