McCreevy statement on US and the WTO
Charlie McCreevy, EU Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, addressed the ECON Committee of the European Parliament.
After his speech he was asked whether the EU would adopt policies similar to the US in terms of online gaming. To this he responded: “In my view it is probably a restrictive practice and we might take it up in another forum.” He then talked about how the EU could look at avenues in the WTO and that they are watching Antigua and Barbuda's struggle there against the US with interest. He also said: “It's not my intention to bring forward a harmonised piece of legislation on gambling in the European Union.”
