Online Gambling Permits Bring Festive Cheer For Czech Betting Operators
05/01/2009: The Czech Ministry of Finance has issued permits to the country’s five largest bookmakers allowing them to accept bets over the internet for the first time. The licences have been granted after years of lobbying from operators and come as the Ministry prepares broader reform of the Czech gambling market.
Czech Government Prepares To Make Key Gambling Policy Decisions
23/10/2008: The Czech Ministry of Finance intends to formally promulgate its plans to reform national gambling laws by the end of November following the publication of an Ernst & Young report that confirmed the need for wide-reaching gambling reform in the country, but revealed a lack of consensus on how internet gambling and competitions and prize draws should be incorporated under new legislation.
Czech Minister Calls For Online Gambling Ban, VLT Regulation
04/09/2008: A senior government minister has called for forthcoming gambling legislation in the Czech Republic to include a ban on internet and mobile gaming, as well as tighter regulations for widely prevalent VLT machines. The country’s finance ministry has just completed a public consultation process for a new law that should be introduced this year.
Czech Gambling Consultation Nears Completion
06/08/2008: Government-appointed consultancy firm Ernst & Young will submit a series of recommendations for an overhaul of gambling regulation in the Czech Republic to the country’s Ministry of Finance at the end of August, having conducted a series of meetings with key industry stakeholders last month. The period for public comments closes on August 18.
Czech Betting Operator Gears Up For Online Regulation
01/02/2008: Czech lottery and sports betting operator Sazka has launched a new service to allow its customers to select bets over the internet before placing them at retail outlets or over the telephone. Whilst online gambling is not currently permitted in the Czech Republic, Sazka says that the new service would be able to offer remote gambling directly if new legislation was introduced.
Czech Republic Floats Internet Betting Ban
24/09/2007: The regulatory climate in the Czech betting and gaming market, estimated to be worth more than £2bn annually, took a sharp turn towards prohibition recently, with government officials now engaged in the drafting of an outright ban on internet gambling in the new EU member state.
