Spanish Charity Lottery Moves Online
21/01/2008: The Spanish Government has authorised traditional charity lottery ONCE to join the main state lottery in selling lottery products over the internet in Spain. The move comes as the Spanish Government finds itself under pressure, including from ONCE, to regulate internet gambling in general.
Spain Edges Towards Remote Gambling Regulation
08/01/2008: Propelled by a motion passed by the Spanish Congress in late December, the Spanish Government is now expected to draw up comprehensive, nationally binding regulations for remote gambling. March’s general elections will likely delay the process, however, and contrary to some reports in the country, the motion does not establish a timetable for new legislation to be introduced.
Spanish Authorities Pursuing Complaints Against Internet Gambling Operators
27/09/2007: Complaints filed by the country’s land-based industry and charity lottery operator ONCE have provoked the Spanish Treasury to begin an investigation into the legal status of online gambling companies active in Spain. At issue is the question of possible tax fraud charges and at the same time reports suggest that a judge in Barcelona has opened investigations into the Spanish arm of Sportingbet.

21/06/2007: A motion impelling the Spanish government to regulate internet gambling was introduced in the Senate by the Socialist Party grouping on Tuesday and, although Senators disagreed on a timeline for action, the debate highlighted an emerging consensus amongst Spanish politicians on the need for regulation.
Internet Gambling Captures Political Attention In Spain
15/06/2007: Members of both main political parties in Spain have put pressure on the government to either regulate or prohibit online gambling whilst a leading consumer association has called upon the Spanish Treasury to examine the legal status of remote operators targeting Spanish customers from abroad.
Madrid’s Regional Gaming Regulation Approved
30/11/2006: Madrid’s Regional Gaming Regulation has been approved. Under this new regulation, online betting companies shall be entitled to obtain administrative authorisation in order to legally render and promote their services within the territory of Madrid. Madrid has established a fixed license fee for a limited number of licenses. Licences will be valid for a five-year period and be renewable if regulatory conditions are met.
Study on Spanish Online Gambling Market
23/11/2006: A new study by Munich-based research company MECN has shown that the Spanish online gambling market could grow to a 4.2 billion Euro industry by the year 2010. It defined Spain as a key region for future growth, with overall gambling potential reaching 39 billion euros in 3 years.
