UK Gambling Operators Face Updated Licence Conditions

06/10/2008: The Gambling Commission last week issued revised licence conditions for all UK gambling operators, to take effect in January next year. Updated provisions include a requirement for remote operators to specify where they offer games under foreign gambling licences on the same website as their UK-licensed offerings.

UK Licence Fees Rise Under New DCMS Proposals

14/03/2008: The Gambling Commission and Department of Culture, Media and Sport have produced their promised consultation document on the review and adjustment of licensing fees for UK gambling businesses. Operators aggrieved at the current system are expected to carefully study these latest proposals - which broadly maintain the existing charging structure but introduce a shake-up of casino licence fees - and should take advantage of the opportunity to have their say.

Sports Bodies Commission Betting Corruption Study

09/11/2007: UK professional sports bodies have commissioned the University of Salford to study the risk of corruption attached to various types of sports bets. The results could be used to back up proposals calling for certain bets to be outlawed and for information sharing agreements between bookmakers and sports associations.

UK Sees Late Summer Of Gambling Ad Recriminations

30/08/2007: “Gambling advertising will produce more gamblers which will in turn produce more problem gamblers, despite protestations to the contrary,” Gamcare Chairman Anthony Jennens declared yesterday. His statement, coming two days before the Act goes into effect, is one of very few pronouncements by Gamcare on the subject of the new laws, which will extend to the advertising of gambling from September 1.
