Delinquency Prevention Bill Amendments Adopted

30/11/2006: The amendments to the Delinquency Prevention Bill have been adopted by the French Parliament. This Bill includes measures permitting the administrative authorities to fight illegal betting and gaming activities (particularly internet based) more efficiently including by creating a blocking mechanism requiring banks to stop the flow of funds from individuals or companies which organise betting or gaming activities which are illegal under French law.

Madrid’s Regional Gaming Regulation Approved

30/11/2006: Madrid’s Regional Gaming Regulation has been approved. Under this new regulation, online betting companies shall be entitled to obtain administrative authorisation in order to legally render and promote their services within the territory of Madrid. Madrid has established a fixed license fee for a limited number of licenses. Licences will be valid for a five-year period and be renewable if regulatory conditions are met.

Submissions for Italian Licences

29/11/2006: Greek gaming firm Intralot has submitted bids for 500 of Italy's gambling points of sale under the country's betting privatisation tender. Eurobet has placed a bid for 200 betting shops and 650 corner stores; Italian company Sisal has bid for 160 shops and 880 corner stores; Cogetech has asked for 175 shops and 175 corner stores and Ladbrokes bid for 85 shops and 880 corner stores. The Italian authorities have unsealed the bids and are expected to announce the winners soon.

Licence Conditions and Codes of Practices Published

27/11/2006: The Gambling Commission has launched its new conditions and codes, which all operators in the gambling industry must follow if they want to run a gambling business in Britain from 1 September 2007. This follows consultation with a wide range of interested organisations, stakeholders, and individuals, including representatives of the gambling industry, local authorities, faith groups, responsible gambling organisations and government departments.

Study on Spanish Online Gambling Market

23/11/2006: A new study by Munich-based research company MECN has shown that the Spanish online gambling market could grow to a 4.2 billion Euro industry by the year 2010. It defined Spain as a key region for future growth, with overall gambling potential reaching 39 billion euros in 3 years.
